Seven dead in Zojila Pass road mishap
Srinagar, May 26 (UNI) Around seven people died and one injured after a vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge at Zojila pass on Wednesday.
Police said that a Tavera car with JK12 7466 number travelling from Kargil to Sonamarg skidded off the road and rolled down into a 500-600 feet deep gorge at Cheeni Nallah Mandir More on the Srinagar-Ladakh highway.
Seven persons including the driver of the vehicle died while an injured person has been shifted to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) Srinagar for treatment, police added.
It was not clear how many occupants were travelling in the ill fated vehicle, police said.
A rescue operation has been launched by the Jammu and Kashmir police, Army, Beacon and locals who reached the spot.
“7 to 8 feared dead, Tavera vehicle, from Kargil to Srinagar, skid-off and fell, in deep gorge at Zojila. Police, Army, Beacon, locals reached the spot”, Aamir Ali Director Disaster Management government of Jammu and Kashmir said in a tweet.
