Sources said that baffled by September 22 Jammu bandh which got total public response, the party has convened an emergent Core Group meeting to discuss pros and cons of the bandh and its implications on the future prospects of the BJP in the J&K UT which is likely to go to polls in next year.
Sources said a large section in the party has shown resentment over the various “anti people policies” of UT Government which also forced the business community to give a call for Jammu bandh and which got a spontaneous public response. These leaders have in unequivocal terms conveyed to leadership that public opinion is going against the party despite the fact that Narendra Modi Government took many daring decisions and brought many public welfare schemes and projects for development of UT and to boost the economy of people, sources added.
They added that this section of party leadership is also not happy with the working of the UT administration as some of its recent decisions are going to affect the prospects of the party to a great extent as they have unnecessarily given the issues to opposition parties to highlight.
Sources said, this section of party leadership has gone to the extent saying that if such policies of UT administration will continue it is definitely going to hit the BJP to the hilt in coming elections and party will be discredited for all the good work done by it during last seven years in office at Centre.
Sources said the leadership is facing severe criticism within for its role in the recent Bar elections as well as the elections held for Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCI) earlier. The question being posed by these leaders is as to how the party supported candidate failed to win the Bar elections and called for an introspection for the same to see as what went wrong.
Sources said, this section of party leadership is also not satisfied with the working of UT administration saying that the common man is totally worried as they suffer on account of bureaucratic hurdles in disposing of their files and settling their cases. They said people have a resentment as there is no body to hear their woes in the administration.
Sources said being totally perturbed this section of party has also made it clear to the leadership that during the recent bandh some vested interests taking the advantage openly demanded restoration of special status of the J&K and termed the decision of abrogation of Articles 370 and 35 A totally wrong which hit the interests of traders and other people of Jammu also.
This section of party leadership is demanding immediate course correction so that the situation will not go out of hand and all the good work done by the Union Government is set to naught, sources said, adding there is lot of public resentment over the Excise policy which made many locals totally jobless, and allotment of mining blocs to outsiders that not only led to the unemployment of locals but also the charging of exorbitant rates for bajri, sand etc which is not affordable for the common man.
Sources said now the new bar policy and allotment of 100 outlets to Reliance has added acid to injury as locals totally feel neglected and discriminated.
Sources said, besides the public resentment against the UT administration, the forthcoming Assembly elections, party’s 20 day long Sewa Samaparan programme which started from September 17 and will conclude on October 7 will also come for discussion during tomorrow’s Core Group meeting.
However, when contacted the party national general secretary, Tarun Chug said it is a routine core Group meeting and nothing extra ordinary is to be discussed in it.
