RAWALPINDI: Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafari, central general secretary Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen, on Sunday said that Muharram processions will be held in the country as per Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the government and restrictions on Azadari (mourning) will not be tolerated.

“It is the right of the government to ensure implementation of SOPs to avoid spread of Covid-19, but we will not accept ban on religious activities of any community when no such ban was imposed on the Azad Jammu and Kashmir election campaign,” he said while

addressing a function held to commemorate the 33rd anniversary of Allama Arif Hussain Al-Husseini at Liaquat Bagh.

The function was attended by Shia-Sunni scholars, various political personalities and a large number of workers from different cities of the country.

Mr Jafari said it was the duty of the government to provide foolproof security to people attending processions and majalis. He added that to overcome the deteriorating situation in the region, the rulers of Pakistan and neighbouring countries need to show responsibility and take concrete steps to maintain peace.

“There is dire need of strong government supported by people in Afghanistan for peace in the region,” he said and added that the country has been facing problems due to wrong policies in the past.
