Ladakh Lieutenant Governor R.K. Mathur chaired Ladakh Conclave on Youth Policy, Education and Jal Jeevan Mission in Leh yesterday. Mr. Mathur appealed Ladakh Autonomous Development Hill Councils (LAHDCs) to work on rationalization of Schools, preparation of text books and create awareness and avenues for youth to become entrepreneurs rather job seekers.
The Ladakh Conclave discussed education system with 22 thousand students in 907 Government schools and over 29 thousand students in 112 private schools. Administration is spending 3.59 lakh rupees to educate each student.
Considering concentration of various levels of Government schools, LG Mathur appealed Hill Councils to exercise on rationalization of schools to improve Student teacher ratio and infrastructure. He underlined the responsibility of elected representatives and administration to ensure 100 per cent enrollment in structured educational institutes under the Right To Education. He said, the religious education could come once the student provided with basic education.
Mr. Mathur assured issues relating to CBSE recognition to schools and setting up of Regional Office will be resolved. He also appealed the Hill Councils for preparation of text books with Ladakh perspective in standardized local language to meet the New Educational Policy requirements. Mr Mathur said, Ladakh students are bright and with improvement in infrastructure and facilities they excel.
Similarly, during the discussion on Draft Ladakh Youth Policy-2021, LG RK Mathur appealed various departments and agencies to provide awareness on opportunities for youth in Ladakh to become entrepreneurs rather job seekers.
He said, unemployment in Ladakh is addressable with skill development and hand holding. He set administration a target of 100 per cent of certification of right skills to increase the employability. He said, Youth Policy has to work to the potential of the Society to make youth entrepreneurs and suggested sector wise, region wise Melas to create awareness among the youth.
