JAMMU: National Sikh Front (NSF) chairman and Jammu and Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vice president, S Varinderjeet Singh has welcomed the decision of a local court in Kashmir for its order to handover a Sikh girl to her parents who allegedly was kidnapped at gunpoint and forced to marry a non-Sikh.
In his fervent appeal to the Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, Mr Singh urged him to make a law against ‘love jihad’ similar to one enacted in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh to check these types of incidents in future.
“The government should take concrete steps for the safeguard of minority Sikh community in JK UT.”
He also appealed to the majority community of JK UT that they should live in harmony and help Sikhs inthese kind of incidents so that image of Kashmiriyat is not tarnished and the social fabric is further strengthened.
As per Sardar Santpal Singh, president Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee-Budgam, a mentally unstable girl was lured by a Muslim man on the pretext of love and marriage and later converted her religion.
