New Delhi: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s all-party meeting with top leaders of Jammu and Kashmir, BJP MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and few groups demanded a separate legislature for the Union Territory of Ladakh.

The group wants a separate schedule in the Constitution of India for safeguarding the land ownership, job reservation, environmental and cultural preservation of locals inhabitants from the Ladakh region.

The announcement was made after a meeting of the apex body was held under the chairmanship H.E Thiksey Khanpo Rinpochay with CEC Tashi Gyalson, MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, chairman Apex Body Thupstan Chhewang and representatives of all religious and political organisations of Leh in attendance.

The Apex Body further said that Kargil would also be on board to press the demand before the Centre.

Representatives of LAHDC, Kargil, and heads of socio-religious and political organisations will be invited to Leh for talks, said Chhewang.

Once the consensus emerges, there will be a joint panel with members from both districts to discuss the issue with the Union government, he added.

BJP MP Namgyal will be heading the joint panel.
