Minor boy drowns in irrigation canal in north Kashmir’s Sopore

Srinagar, May 9 (UNI) A 13-year-old boy drowned in an irrigation channel in the apple township of Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla on Sunday.

Official sources said that a group of boys were swimming in an irrigation canal in Rehan in Sopore on Sunday afternoon. “A portion of the canal collapsed and fell one of the boys, identified as Salik Ahmad,” they said.

They said the boy, who was injured in the incident, was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. “After completing all the legal and medical formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to his relatives for last rites,” they said.

They said a case has been registered and investigation has been taken up in the incident.
